گ

NA
Gāf,
NA
called kāf-i-‘ajamī (the Persian kāf, it being unknown in the Arabic). The twenty-sixth letter of the Persian alphabet, and the twenty-ninth Hindūstānī. Its sound is that of g hard, as in the words go, give, never like that of g in the words gem, gentle. in reckoning by abjad it counts 20, the same as kāf (the preceding letter). the Arabs sometimes substitute jīm for gāf, as lajām for lagām, a bridle. The people of India, on the other hand, often substitute gāf for ghain, as kāgaẕ or kāgaj for kāghaẕ, paper. p. h.
